Having a reliable heating and hot water system is essential for a comfortable home. The Samsung Gen 6 Eco Heating System (EHS) is an incredibly smart, high-efficiency system designed to keep your home warm year-round. However, because it contains advanced safety sensors, it will occasionally shut down and display an alphanumeric Error Code on your indoor control screen.
Think of these error codes like a dashboard light in your car they are designed to protect the system's expensive components from serious damage.
Below, we’ve broken down the most common Samsung Gen 6 error codes into plain English, included simple things you can check yourself, and highlighted when it’s time to bring in professional help.
1. Water Flow & Circulation Issues (The Most Common Codes)
Code: E911 (Low Water Flow Rate)
What it means: The system has triggered an emergency stop because water isn't moving through your home's pipes fast enough (it needs a minimum flow of 16 liters per minute to run safely).
What you can check: * Check your central heating pressure gauge (usually located in your airing cupboard near the white expansion vessel). It should read between 1.0 and 2.0 bar when cold. If it’s too low, the system needs topping up.
Ensure that your radiator valves or underfloor heating zones are turned open and not completely shut off.
Code: E912 (Circulation Pump Failure)
What it means: The heat pump thinks its main internal circulation pump has stopped working or that the flow sensor is sending scrambled data.
What you can check: Check to see if your home has recently experienced a power cut or spike. Sometimes resetting the main isolation switch can clear a temporary glitch.
Code: E403 (Outdoor Unit Freezing)
What it means: The outdoor unit's condenser coils have dropped to a critically freezing temperature while running.
What you can check: Walk outside and look at the big fan unit. Is it buried in deep snow, blocked by heavy autumn leaves, or choked by garden debris? Carefully clear away any obstructions to restore airflow.
Code: E440 & E441 (Operation Restrictions)
What it means: The weather is too extreme for the system's current settings. E440 means it is too hot outside to run the heating safely (>35°C), and E441 means it is too cold outside to run air cooling (< -15°C).
What you can check: If the weather isn't actually that extreme, check if your outdoor temperature sensor is sitting in direct, intense sunlight, tricking the machine's computer.
Code: E500 (Inverter Board Overheated)
What it means: The main brain/power module in the outdoor unit has gotten too hot.
What you can check: Turn off your heat pump completely at your main electrical isolation switch. Leave it completely off for 20 to 30 minutes to allow the electronics to cool down naturally, then turn it back on.
Technical Codes That Require a Specialist
If your controller displays any of the following codes, it indicates an internal electrical issue, mismatched computer memory, or a component failure. These cannot be fixed with a quick household reset:
E201 / E556 / E557: Data Mismatch / EEPROM Errors (The indoor and outdoor units have lost communication alignment or their digital memory is corrupted).
E468: Current Sensor Error (The main inverter control board requires replacing).
E474 / E484: Temperature and Power Overload sensor faults on the main control plate.
Still Unsure? Get In Touch—We Are Samsung Accredited!
Heat pumps combine complex refrigeration loops, high-voltage electrics, and plumbing balances. Trying to dismantle or fix internal electronic components yourself can void your manufacturer warranty or cause further damage.
If your system is stuck on an error code, or if you've tried basic troubleshooting (like checking your water pressure) and the code keeps returning, don't worry!
We are officially Samsung Accredited Installers. This means our engineers are trained directly by Samsung and have specialized digital diagnostics equipment to get your heat pump back up and running quickly, safely, and efficiently.
