Making your home heating work better

If your home takes too long to warm up or some rooms never feel comfortable, start by looking at how the heating is working now. An improvement might involve maintenance, controls or the way heat is distributed around the property.
Forward Thermal and Flow helps with plumbing, central heating, boilers and renewable heating systems. We can discuss existing problems as well as plans for a future upgrade.
Notice where the heat is needed
Write down which rooms are uncomfortable and when. A room that stays cold throughout the day presents a different problem from one that cools quickly after the heating switches off. Tell us whether the issue is longstanding or has appeared recently.
Furniture covering a radiator or an awkwardly positioned thermostat can also affect the way a room heats or the controls respond. These are useful observations to share when describing the problem.
Review controls and maintenance
Heating schedules and room controls should suit how the property is used. If you are unsure what a thermostat or programmer does, ask for an explanation before changing settings at random.
A service or diagnostic visit can help address concerns about the equipment. Explain known faults when booking rather than assuming a routine service will include their repair. If there is a hot water cylinder, mention that separately too.
Plan improvements in a sensible order
Insulation and draught reduction can reduce heat loss, while keeping appropriate ventilation in place. If building work is planned, discuss it before choosing replacement heating equipment because it may change the property's heating needs.
A heat pump could form part of that longer term plan. Its suitability should be assessed against the building, heating distribution and hot water requirements. Running costs depend on the design, use and energy tariff, so ask for an explanation based on your property.
Tell us what you want to improve
Contact Thermal and Flow with your postcode, current heating type and the issue you want to solve. Whether the priority is a cold room, unreliable hot water or planning ahead, we can discuss the appropriate assessment.
