Boiler playing up and weighing up your next move

Updated: Oct 21

When your boiler starts cutting out, losing pressure or struggling to heat the house, you want to know what is wrong and what it will take to put it right. A fault does not automatically mean you need a new boiler. It does mean the cause needs checking before you spend money on a solution.
At Thermal and Flow, we help with boiler servicing, heating faults and replacement systems. If you are also considering a heat pump, we can talk through the next steps alongside your immediate heating needs.
Start with the fault
A cold radiator or unreliable hot water can have several causes. The boiler, controls, circulation and the wider heating system all need considering. Tell us what happens, when it started and whether the problem affects heating, hot water or both. A photograph of the model label and any fault code is useful too.
Repair or replace
A sensible decision takes account of the fault, the condition of the appliance, parts availability and any wider work needed. Ask what the repair covers and whether there are other known issues. If replacement is recommended, the quotation should explain the proposed equipment and associated work so you can compare the options properly.
Considering a heat pump
Replacing a boiler can also be a good time to review your longer term plans. A heat pump needs a design suited to the property, including its heat loss, radiators or underfloor heating, hot water needs and available space. A like for like boiler quotation and a heat pump proposal involve different work, so it helps to look at the whole system.
