Could a heat pump suit your Sussex home

Updated: Oct 21

If you are thinking about changing your heating, the useful starting point is your home. Two houses with the same number of bedrooms can need different systems. The building, existing heating and the way you use hot water all influence the right approach.
Thermal and Flow provides plumbing, heating and renewable heating services. We can discuss your plans and help you understand what needs assessing before you commit to a heat pump.
Understand what the building needs
A heat loss assessment works out how much heat the property needs to stay warm in cold weather. It considers the rooms and the building fabric rather than relying on a rough floor area alone. This helps inform the choice of heat pump and the heating output needed in each room.
Check the heating already in place
Existing radiators may be suitable, or some may need upgrading. Their output at the proposed operating temperature matters more than whether they look large enough. Pipework, controls and the hot water arrangement also need reviewing. Ask for any necessary changes to be explained in the quotation.
Think about space and everyday use
An air source system needs a suitable outdoor position, with space for airflow and maintenance. Noise, nearby windows and neighbouring properties need considering when choosing that position. Inside, check how hot water will be stored and whether there is suitable space for the proposed equipment.
It is also worth explaining your household routine. The number of occupants, bath and shower use, and which rooms are occupied throughout the day can help shape the discussion.
Get a proposal you can understand
Ask what is included, which existing components will stay and how the proposed system will be controlled. Expected running costs should be based on stated assumptions about the property, system performance and energy prices.
To start a conversation, send Thermal and Flow your postcode, current heating type and a brief outline of what you want to achieve. We will discuss your requirements and the next assessment needed.
